Hurricane Sandy Plans

Today everyone was home as the public schools, colleges and even business places shut down in the Boston area. Even the MBTA shut down by 2pm this afternoon.

We had a tasty home cooked lunch all together, and then broke up to work on our own projects.

Chiquita worked on a crochet project in the morning, and then she moved on to a costume sewing project for the afternoon and evening.

Salvbard  has been working from home and poking at the internet.

I have been crocheting snowflakes and contemplating what to make for dinner.

We have been fortunate so far with just one brief power outage, a tiny trickle of water in the basement walls, a broken shutter, and a few small broken branches on the fruit trees. Happy thoughts to all those affected by the storm.

Inlay Socks

Although I haven not managed to blog about them until now, I did knit a pair of short socks a while back.

Pattern: Inlay by Hunter Hammersen
Needles: US 2 / 2.75 mm
Yarn: Regia 4ply in color 1994
Yarn Supplier: Woolcott (closed)

I rarely knit socks from solid colors, so when I pulled this yarn out of deep stash (seriously, since I bought it from Woolcott in Harvard Square back in the day) I knew I wanted to do something cabled or at least highly textured to take full advantage.

As it turns out though, I did not love knitting this pattern at all though, thus the greatly shortened leg. The results are interesting, but the process was not super enjoyable for me. I did find that going up a needle size to an unheard of 2.75mm needle for fingering weight socks did make it a little bit better, but I grumbled through it.

Honestly though finishing anything was progress, as I have been in a bit of a knitting slump recently. There have been exciting work developments over the last few months, and I have been busy during the day and too tired at night. I am slowly climbing out, but I am afraid it did not make for anything interesting to share with you all.

New York Sheep and Wool 2012

Holy sheep we spent the day at Rhinebeck! It has been one of those things that Salvbard and I have talked about doing for years, but this year he totally made it happen.

The foliage was in full force, and the weather was amazing, despite my fears of more of yesterday's rain. We had a bit of extra adventure getting here last night involving the wet, a closed bridge, and a helpful GPS suggesting farm roads. The car may never be clean of mud again.

We saw may adorable animals from the obligatory sheep to a kangaroo to this very handsome Flemish Giant rabbit.

We went to the insanity that was the Ravelry and Podcaster meetups.

This picture does not include any more than a small fraction of the people here for the Ravelry meet-up, but there was a photographer with a camera on a giant stick to try to get an official picture for later.

There was of course lot of yarn. Some of it even is coming home with us, although it was relatively little all things considered. I am really happy with the thoughtful purchases I did make though.

We had a lovely dinner at the Grazin' Diner in Hudson, NY. It is a small farm to table places with an ethic behind it that I care about. Plus the food was really good. Highly recommended. We had an early dinner, so that we could get back to our accommodations enjoy the amazing light and view from our room.

I admit to being more than a bit over peopled, but I had lots of fun. Fortunately I could retreat with a book for a bit of quiet after dinner. Bliss.

Good night blog! I will see what I can do to update you soon with the other details of what I have been up to.
